You're Just Telling Me This NOW?

This may look like an ordinary trash can, but it isn't.  It is indeed a trash can...a rather large one at that.  But it holds the dry dog kibble for EmmaLou, Golden Destroyer - about 40 pounds at one time.  That's about $80 or so worth of doggie kibble.  It's special doggie kibble because poor EmmaLou has skin allergies so she can't eat your standard doggie kibble...no, she has to have special Fish and Chips, er, I mean Fish and Potatoes from Iams only obtainable at the vet's office.

Today I get a call from the Assistant Vet to tell me that Iams has issued a recall of all their specialty cat and dog food because the plant was tainted with salmonella....oh and she warned me I should wash my hands very well.  Excuse me???  I've had this for several weeks now...the recall went out earlier for cat food and you're just NOW calling me to tell me it includes dog food too, AND to wash my flippin' hands?  How about asking me if my dog has had any ill effects from this %$^$%^ food?  How about giving me BACK the $70 or $80 I paid for this food minus maybe $10 worth she already has been subjected to.  Oh Crap On a Crutch!

  1. If they recalled it then I would hope they would reimburse you with either new food or a refund.

  2. delaney - I'm still waiting to hear about reimbursement of some type - this food is really expensive. I'm also looking into a company recommended by a friend, Flint River Ranch - they make all their own and it's organic plus they have free shipping. Still costs alot but I'm not sure I want to buy from my vet anymore. Sending away for a free sample from FRR for EmmaLou to see if she likes it.

  3. Ouch. That's scary. I hope the EmmaLou IS fine, especially since you said she is sensitive to start with...

  4. LiveOutLoud - thanks sweetie - EmmaLou is okay - thankfully what she ate wasn't contaminated but we threw out the rest and scoured out all containers thoroughly to make sure no salmonella could be there. I'm still furious about this because it took so long to tell me.

  6. Doggonedmysteries - I didn't know Purina made that - I looked it up to check the ingredients. I'm also looking into a place called Flint River Ranch that does organic dog food and they have a trout and sweet potato for sensitive skinned dogs that I may try - I've heard very good things about it. She's currently eating Hill's venison and potatoes and the gas coming outta that dog is amazing - ugh. Must find substitute. lol can't have a normal dog, no, not me...
